Based on REAKTOR technology and derived from the live setup of Tim Exile, THE FINGER is a new type of live performance and remix effect which can be “played” like a musical instrument. THE FINGER is opening up new ways for intuitive sound mangling, live remixing, and advanced tempo-synced effects processing – in the studio or on stage. Powered by REAKTOR, THE FINGER is available for use with the free REAKTOR 5 PLAYER, or the full version ofREAKTOR 5.5.

EFFECT TYPES
THE FINGER provides more than 40 effects including real-time samplers/transformers (e.g. loop, re-arrange, reverse, scratch, heavy granular effects etc.), as well as filters, gaters, delays, reverbs, distortion, wave shapers, ring modulation and many others. Each effect has two parameters controlled by velocity or mod wheel, and is tempo-synced to a master clock or the tempo of your audio host.

REAL-TIME PLAYABILITY VIA KEYBOARD
The main advantage of THE FINGER is the ability to trigger effects via MIDI keyboard (or the “piano roll” in a sequencer). Four octaves of MIDI notes have a specific effect per sound with their own settings assigned to each. The order you trigger the notes is the order the effects get layered in, so chains can be arranged and re-arranged in no time. Make the last key a loop effect, and you can continue the chain from there, endlessly. This allows you to “play” and improvise with effects just like with a “real” instrument. When used within a host sequencer as an effects plug-in, you can record your playing as MIDI in the piano roll editor allowing to edit your effect chains in a much simpler way.

The potential for creative audio mayhem is pretty much inexhaustible, and it has never been more fun – that is the power of THE FINGER.

“I’ve always been into the idea of playing electronics like you play acoustic instruments. I used to sit at the back of class at school tapping out jungle breaks and edits. THE SOUND OF ADDITIVE SYNTHESIS
In additive synthesis, the sound is constructed from partials – single sine waves firing in parallel, changing amplitude and even frequency over time. The resulting sound remains clear and precise at all times, even when heavily modulated.

RAZOR’s additive engine consists of up to 320 partials. Everything you hear – the filters, the stereo imaging, even the reverbs and delays are created by manipulating these individual sine waves. DESIGNED FOR MUSICIANS
RAZOR’s interface draws on familiar concepts from more ‘traditional’ synthesizers. This combination of new and familiar makes creating sounds surprisingly simple.

RAZOR has been designed for musicians, not scientists. The entire interface is compact and focused, with a straightforward internal modulation framework and a large graphical display. THE PRISM SYNTH
REAKTOR PRISM uses REAKTOR 5.5′s new ‘Modal Bank’ module to generate cutting-edge sounds. PRISM’s signal origin is the “Exciter”, which creates impulses or continuous noise signals that feed the Modal Bank. From there the spectrum is ‘refracted’ through multiple resonating filters, giving it its distinctive sound. The result is a synth equally suited to hard basses and shimmering leads as it is organic soundscapes, percussive keys, flutes and bells – highly expressive, dynamic and alive. MIDI data like velocity values can change the tone radically, and modulation possibilities are extensive. Additionally, five audio effects are included – an amp simulation, an 8-pole filter, a flanger, a stereo delay and a reverb enrich and enliven the instrument’s output signal.

THE PRISM EFFECT
REAKTOR PRISM FX is an additional ensemble that works as an effects processor for incoming audio. It takes advantage of PRISM’s complex resonator – the Modal Bank – to apply rich processing and modulation to incoming audio signals. The ‘Exciter’ section of the synth version has been replaced with an audio input section feeding PRISM’s resonator structure and deriving control signals from the incoming audio. The results are wide-ranging, from subtle and natural to extreme and synthetic sound coloring. PRISM FX works as a polyphonic resonator, a complex filter and a self-oscillating sound generator. The integrated Gate and Envelope Follower give detailed control over the shape of the resonating tones. The effect shows its power best on incoming percussive and noisy audio material. In addition it functions like a conventional effects processor thanks to its built in effects just like the synth version.

PRISMATIC SOUND
The PRISM synth contains 370 ready-to-play sounds, made up of numerous basses, bells, keys, leads, pads, soundscapes and more – plus, the potential of unlimited new patches of your own creation. The range of sound is very wide, as is the range of expression PRISM offers – from pleasant and delicate to growling and aggressive. The simple source sounds deliver complex results that are unobtainable via classic analog synthesis, yet remain highly playable and easy to program. The PRISM FX ensemble comes with 50 presets and widens the scope even further; its flexibility is its strength, making a wide range of colourful and unprecedented sounds a real possibility.

TC Works Mercury 1 VSTi Fixed

The Mercury-1 from TC Works (TC Electronics) is a monophonic multitimbral modeled-analog synthesizer for PC based VST-compatible audio programs. It has a basic and simple design and architecture just like the classic Moog and Roland synths it is modeled after. It also packs quite a punch with its monophonic analog sound and quality Moog-like filter. It sounds great when generating basses, leads, growls, 303 sounds, synth percussion and effects. It has awesome sound quality but was extremely CPU-intensive back when it was released, but now it is extremely CPU-friendly.

Modulation comes in many forms on the Mercury-1. A classic LFO offers some basic waveforms, sample-and-hold features and MID sync. Oscillator Sync can also be modulated by the LFO and the Envelope Generator. The TCA section is a basic amp with Volume and Drive via TC “SoftSat” algorithm for analog sounding distortion. It is switchable between ENV 2 or Gate modes. There are two ADSR envelope generators assignable to various sections including the TCF filter, Pitch Mod, PWM, and TCA. Additionally there are pitch and mod wheels, glide, ring modulation, white noise generators and more. MIDI controller data can be recorded and sent to all of the controls of Mercury-1 for real-time programming.

Mercury-1 provides an excellent all-purpose analog mono-synth full of classic sounds…without all the hassles of a real classic synth. Although it costs as much as some better featured competing softsynths, musicians using VST-compatible sequencers would benefit from adding this plug-in to their arsenal. It offers clean sounds and works seamlessly with VST sequencers in realtime. It does have a few limitations to be aware of. It uses high-note priority instead of the more common last-note priority method. And its single-trigger envelopes mean that you have to actually leave a brief gap between notes to re-trigger the envelope. Otherwise you may hear your notes decay away under the envelope of your first note if you play too fast. Careful sequencing can easily overcome this sometimes annoying performance feature. But it’s easy to use and will be both familiar to seasoned programmers, and an easy learn for those new to classic analog mono-synths.

The Peak Filter adds a peak to the original signal for a specific frequency spectrum. The peak can be increased to four times louder than the original signal. An additional brickwall limiter makes sure that the increased db is limited to the maximum 0 db.

BEATMASHER
Updated version of the Beatmasher effect – a buffer-based effect for capturing a loop from the current audio material and automatically re-arranging it into something entirely new. A modern classic from the TRAKTOR generation.

GATER
The Gater rhythmically mutes parts of the audio at adjustable rates. The Master Clock controls the rate and the moment in time of muting. A white noise effect can be added to the Gater for emphasizing the rhythmical pattern.
